When you use music that has been previously heard on the radio, even if it's everybody's favorite song, it can detract from your film. Don't let the music cause a distraction from your production. A film composer can help you with many aspects of the production such as precise synchronization of the audio soundtrack to your film or dubbing over a professional singing voice. Some of my techniques include: hybrid recording, digital sample recording or live musical performance.
Hit points take skill and training and a whole lot of math!
It's what the major films in Hollywood do. Anyone can compose music that happens around the correct time. When the music is an enjoyable melody and is also able to hit the exact frame intended THAT is what separates the beginner from the professional. Sometimes the rate of speed of the music needs to be as exact as a thousandth of a second! It's usually so subliminal the viewer is unaware of why that moment of the film caught their attention.
When the music turns sad at the exact spot, more emotion is in the film.
When the music mimics people or objects falling – even a car door, it's only possible with correct hit point usage. This adds a huge amount of sophistication to a film. When done correctly, love is lovelier, sad is sadder and funny is funnier.
